Copenhagen

We Travelled:29km
Stay: Kongsholmparken- picnic area in parkland 55.6500 12.3399

We had an early start to go and visit Copenhagen. We crossed through Christianshavn and over a retractable pedestrian bridge.

We then walked along the man made canal and admired the colourful gabled buildings in Nyhavn.

We continued along the waters edge and passed Amalienborg, where the Royal family resides.

Along the way we came across a bronze statue of David.

Then we saw the Gefion fountain next to St.Alban church.

It was only just a little bit further and we finally reached the well known statue of the 'Little Mermaid' which was gifted to the city by the brewer Carl Jacobsen in 1913. We took our photos and got out of there before the masses arrived!

We then continued following the purple route indicated on the city map we have. This took us through the Kastellet, which is an old fort, but present day military are still here.

We walked past a few churches and the National Gallery
Marble church

before walking around the Rosenborg Castle built in 1633 which still houses the Crown Jewels in its basement.

We then headed into the heart of the city and decided to climb up the 34.8m Round Tower (25kr each).

Built in 1642 it has a unique 209m Spiral Ramp.

Along the journey up, there were a few poi.. The library hall that once housed 10,000 university books but now has art exhibitions. The Bell Loft made from large impressive timbers.

The glass floor inside the hollow core that is 25m above the ground and where is Denmark's zero point used to make the first map of The country in1841.

The latrine which, thankfully,is no longer used. We then had a short spiral staircase to the observation deck which gave us a great view of the city. The dome on the top of the tower has Europe's oldest functioning astronomy Observatory.

Oresund Bridge to Malmö Sweden

We then had a look in the church that is built beside the tower.

Our next stop was the Church of Our Lady Cathedral where Prince Frederick and Mary were married in 2004.

Then it was to the City Hall built 1905. We enjoyed walking through this very impressive building and had a look at the amazing World Clock made by Jens Olsen.

We then strolled around Christianborg Palace where the Queen performs her royal duties.

We also had a look in the Royal Chapel.

On our way back to Bluey we passed the Theatre and the the Stock Exchange building.

Our last stop was Our Saviours Church with its remarkable 95m Spiral tower.

Inside there was also an amazing wooden carved organ built in 1698.

We were happy to find Bluey in one piece and decided to get out of the city to a quieter spot.
