Kiel Canal Germany

Travelled: 176km
Visited: Ribe Denmark, Husum Germany
Stay: Hochdonn, Germany mixed parking area near canal 54.0170 9.2955

We began the morning with a stroll around Ribe, one of Denmark's oldest towns, following the map from the tourist office. There were plenty of lovely half timbered houses scattered throughout the village as we made our way along cobbled lanes.

The cathedral dominated the skyline having been rebuilt in 1150.

Then it was into Germany, stopping in Husum to have a look at the medieval seaport town with its square lined with some 17th & 18th century buildings.

We then made our way to a spot for tonight on the Kiel Canal in Hochdonn. The 98km canal was built in late 1800's and early 1900's and links the North and Baltic Seas. We enjoyed a few beers and a schnitzel dinner watching the boats go by. We asked permission to park next to the restaurant as the other parking area near the ferry was full of Motorhomes.
